Interview: Scott Jenkins For those who know more about the author of the novel
"The Chronicler" want to learn us Scott Jenkins in an interview to answer questions has been:
first What has
inspired you to your work? Where do you get your ideas? The biggest inspiration, and actually the Source of the Idea Andreas Eschbach's novel, The Jesus video was'. I do not remember if I first read the book or seen the mini-series to have - in any case has fascinated me the book. In his book, yes, a young archaeologist is accompanied in his quest, and I wondered what would happen if the traveler is accompanying himself? So how would a man from our time feel that trip, he would take it as it has a great social, cultural and mental differences would survive.
And of course - as a traveler would actually respond to Jesus? If he or euphoric rather disappointed by the actual historical person? And a final point, of course, is - yes you have to specify which of the traditional criteria to as 'true' or as 'invented' increases. Was it murder of the children by Herod? When Jesus was born because now, as the year 0 or 1 yes no question ...?
respect of ideas - because it's a journey into another era, it is what it is good that story is one of my hobbies, because I am fascinated by ancient cultures, peoples and languages very easily.
The remaining ideas come from my imagination, because it with me, whether good or bad, so that my thoughts can wegschweifen very quickly, I often fast, the concentration lose. I had even been speculated to be suffering from ADHD. The result - you can think long and a lot of different things, sometimes quiet about nonsense, for who is also now plays a part. And my thoughts are mostly on scientific subjects, or stop to scenes of stories, which can already exist - or not. And so it may be that I am from a scene that I write afterwards, had previously played sometimes by dozens of variants, and finally select those that seems most appropriate.
second Do you identify with one or more of your characters? Sometimes yes, that also depends on the history and the people from. The relevant work already some things I put in the main character, Ross Devlin 'in it. He studied history (I would imagine myself to), falls in love with a girl and tries to get along with everyone.
But I have the characters deliberately chosen differently, so you can see a better contrast. I certainly hope that it works. However, I must admit that I really could not create evil characters, at least not last. But then I am surely not the type.
The super-genius in the book also has a few problems with the 'normal' life, but this is because that, if it is not 'normal' is. Still, he finds his place.
Whether one could identify as a man with a female character can not answer likely.
third Who can read a new text from you first? And why? past my parents and my family have read the first drafts, now I post it in forums where possible and also ask friends or acquaintances, whether one or the other feels like to read the story before.
this regard, I pay a little bit on whether the person may have expertise that would be important for the story and thus could confirm the authenticity. A solid person in the sense I have not.
4th Why or how did you start writing? Is there a key moment? The key event, if such it will call it that was, 1994. Roland Emmerich, Stargate 'came out and that was for my first two books in the series, the second man' of the beginning, even if it is up to the first word after that lasted months. I have collected ideas and eventually I was afraid that one of the ideas might be lost, so I sat down one day and started.
5th What does it mean for you to write, or author to be? Well I would have said in my school that I one day would just write books - I probably would have smiled. It is also true that I was in school when it comes to literature is rather one of the weaker.
is now no longer imagine it from my life. It is even almost a kind of elixir of life, the more I do not want to miss. And I have enough ideas to the end of my life. Meanwhile, I may even harbor a sense of pride when I look at my previously written stories. In virtually all of it puts a lot of passion and love and often I still like to read it.
There is also a process of development there. My first two stories of the 'second man' were my beginnings, I have now downgraded to a child's level, as is my style, word choice and writing flow have changed much since then.
6th Influenced your life your stories or take your work affect your life? I think much of the former and a little of the latter. But concrete answer to this is to be able to reach I think 15 years is not really.
7th Do you have literary role models? No.
8th Where you have to get ideas for writing? from daily life and the one from the TV to another. In TV you can watch a lot of interesting characters, then sometimes in the stories . Incorporated And judging of characters - that is why he does this and that why he behaves the way he reacts to others, he has certain gestures and facial expressions - is sometimes the most interesting and exciting.
9th What makes your book "The Chronicler" so worth reading? I think - generally only once - then that a book is worth reading, if there is no more predictable as possible. So if you start to read, and after five or think you are - probably go on and on and on and as it is clearly - then I would find it boring and I would not touch the book well again. My
, chroniclers' are, at least for all those who are interested in at least a bit of science fiction and history. I also hope that others who are less at the heart of this genre, be curious enough, just to catch a glimpse. But I hope and also think that I both themes - time travel, on the one general and the topic Jesus on the other - have put together with enough voltage.
I have also tried, probably the most famous science-fiction theme: time travel - to provide you with as much authenticity as possible. Therefore, the story begins in the 22nd Century, so that science and technology by then have enough time, the craziest things produce ... And - the characters in the book to go with the point, time travel 'is also somewhat realistic' about.
10th Your word to the audience Imagine, going to the door with you and a friend comes in to you and says - Hey, I'm with my friends found a way through time - you come with me "
How? would you react? - Hey, wow, that's great. Sure - I'll just quickly my things ... '! Or would you say - 'What? Tell me have you lost your mind? Do you know anything, because everything that can happen? And know Ye at all, where this path leads ...? " , At the time change. Want to know 'even know who Jesus really was ...? "
So just imagine - what if ...?
11th In your novel is about time travel, why this topic fascinates you? I think there are several aspects that make this topic so interesting and fascinating.
First - the fact that many scientists laugh at our time of this issue and dismiss it as humbug. So one might say, the more some people reject a topic, the more interesting it seems to be.
Second - here come together two themes: First, the technology that makes such a journey possible. " Without science and technology and not because I am more than academic interest, at least in the passive, I can connect to the other. On the other hand, the historical period, is to go to it. And with history a hobby of this issue for me is perfect.
Third - the so-called temporal theories'. What kind of rules there are, what are they, what needs attention. Also on this subject I have racked their brains for years - for example what is meant by causality, what we know today on the subject, what else is in horror? Again, I must say that I as the TV does have influence.
12th If you take yourself a trip could, what time was your goal? Why? I think there would be no time period that would not like it. Probably would be my main aim of the Roman Empire under Julius Caesar. The Romans then created an empire that has lasted one thousand years and thus have tried almost all possible forms of government. This topic - the Roman Empire - is of course very versatile. Starting with the Italic tribes - Romulus and Remus, I let get away deliberately - to the great empire of European history, it has a very large stamp pressed. It was the time of Hannibal, Caesar, Cleopatra, Alexander, and of course Jesus. And for people interested in this period of history is very exciting and fascinating.
